In-person WordPress events are back and better than ever! After an incredible and energizing WordCamp US in San Diego, WordPressers are now heading to WordCamp Netherlands (WCNL) in Arnhem to collaborate in person. Beginners and experts from all over the world will gather at the Royal Burgers’ Zoo to learn and network.

The Royal Burgers’ Zoo in Arnhem, Netherlands, will be the backdrop for this year’s WCNL

The conference will take place over two days, with four tracks starting on Thursday, September 15th and three more on Friday the 16th. Organizers have cultivated a large variety of talks for every level of user.

Tickets are still available.

Head of Relations for Yoast, Taco Verdo, attended WCUS and then turned around and went right back home to catch WCNL this weekend. At WCUS, he got to see first hand just how powerful in-person WordPress events are.

“I think WordCamps (and meetups) are the glue that keeps WordPress together,” Verdo said.

“Yes, we’re also an online community, but nothing forms bonds like having fun together.”

Talks for Everyone

While most talks will be presented in Dutch, there will be at least one talk or workshop at all times in English, so everyone can participate.

Interim Yoast CTO, Joost de Valk, will present a talk at WCNL about the importance of considering the environment when building websites

Founder and interim CTO of Yoast, Joost de Valk, will speak about the importance of considering the environment when building websites. The truth is, every website lives on a server and those servers can use a lot of resources. De Valk will discuss the importance of minimizing your digital footprint without sacrificing speed.

Rian Rietveld, founder of Level Level, will host a workshop on accessibility testing in your browser. Accessibility is incredibly important for every site owner, but getting started can feel overwhelming. Rietveld will share simple steps every person can do that will make big impacts on accessibility.

Definitely don’t miss out on WordPress Through the Terminal with XWP Engineer  Milana Cap. Cap is going to see what the WordPress terminal can do when met with pressure. This will be a live terminal commanding highlighting meant to see what the WP-CLI can truly handle.

If you want to check out the animals but don’t want to miss any great talks, the organizers have set a “Zoo Block” from 2:00 to 3:00 pm CEST on Saturday.

Long Live the Community

After what felt like the longest two years of our lives, in-person WordCamps are finally coming back. Though WordPress has a vibrant online community, the feeling of an in-person event can’t be replicated. The greatest part of WordPress is the people.

“Those relationships between contributors to WordPress are what makes this work. It helps people understand each other better, bridging cultures and languages,” said Yoast’s Verdo.

We are better together, and there’s nothing like getting to learn and grow in the same space. Thanks to all the amazing sponsors, volunteers, and organizers who take time out of their workdays to make events like this possible.

We can’t wait to see you all there!
