Genesis Custom Blocks

The Genesis Custom Blocks plugin makes it easy to build your own custom blocks without knowledge of how to write JavaScript. You’ll only need to use PHP, HTML, CSS, and the block editor.

Genesis Custom Blocks is available in two versions:

Both versions can be used on an unlimited number of sites no matter where they are hosted. Also, they can be used with any WordPress® theme – the Genesis Framework is not required.1

If you upgrade to Genesis Custom Blocks Pro, you can safely deactivate and delete Genesis Custom Blocks (free). Your settings and content will remain unchanged when switching to the Pro version.

In this article, we’ll explain the differences between the two versions and what features are included in each one.

Genesis Custom Blocks (free)

The free version of this plugin is full-featured and includes everything you need to create an unlimited number of custom blocks for your site.

With Genesis Blocks, building custom blocks is a simple 3-step process:

  1. Create a custom block
  2. Create a block template
  3. Style the custom block

This plugin includes a variety of fields, functions, and filters that you can use when building and customizing your custom blocks.

The free version includes the following 13 fields:

  • Checkbox
  • Color
  • Email
  • Image
  • Multi-Select
  • Number
  • Radio
  • Range
  • Select
  • Text
  • Textarea

NOTE

See the Genesis Custom Blocks documentation for details about all the fields, functions, and filters, as well as instructions on how to use them.

Genesis Custom Blocks Pro

Genesis Custom Blocks Pro includes everything in the free version of the plugin plus more fields and advanced options.

In addition to the fields included in the free version, the Pro version currently adds the following 6 fields (with more planned in the future):

  • Rich Text
  • Taxonomy
  • User

Also, the Pro version includes the ability to export and import custom blocks so they can be easily shared across your projects.
