A First Look at WordCamp US

In less than two weeks, members from the WordPress community around the world will head to Nashville, Tennessee for WordCamp US. This is the second consecutive year that the event has been held in Music City and WordPress community has evolved significantly since 2017. The most anticipated topic of discussion this year will be around the new WordPress editor, Gutenberg. While WordPress co-founder, Matt Mullenweg has stepped out to answer pertinent WordPress 5.0 questions, WordCamp US will be a larger event with more discussion of the new editor.  

In addition to numerous sessions about Gutenberg, WordCamp US will be chock full of intriguing and relevant sessions. We’ll be covering WordCamp US as it happens. However, before the event, we wanted to share some events and sessions that we are excited about.

Automattic Design Award

During WCEU, John Maeda announced that he was launching an Automattic Design Award. This award will recognize the best-designed ideas out there in the WordPress ecosystem. Nine winners will be recognized within three categories: Best Site, Best Solution and Best Style. Winners will be announced on December 8th during WordCamp US.

WordPress Leads the Charge in Mobile Web

Join WP Engine CTO and Founder Jason Cohen as he sheds pertinent knowledge on the effect of Accelerated Mobile Pages and Progressive Web Apps. Learn about the way different CMSs are harnessing these technologies to power digital experiences across the mobile web.

Gutenberg, GraphQL, and Government: Building Blocks for the State of California

Jason Bahl, a Senior WordPress Developer at Digital First Media, will discuss how The California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development used Gutenberg o provide a custom editing experience that would have been much more difficult without Gutenberg. The talk will help the community become more comfortable with the new editor, address some common pain points, and some proposed solutions and workarounds to said pain points.

WCUS Contributor Day

People of all skill levels are welcome to join in contribution to WCUS 2018 Contributor Day. The event will be held Sunday, December 9th at the Music City Center in Exhibit Hall B. Teams include Accessibility, Community, Core. Design, Documentation, Gutenberg, Hosting, Marketing, Meta, Mobile, Plugins, Polygots, Support, Test, Tide, Themes, Training, WordPress TV, and WP-CLI.
